Of italian origin, trumpet player Chris Botti was born on october 12th 1962 in Portland (USA). Like Chet Baker, his reputation comes from a romantic smooth jazz style. In 1999, Botti runs the jazz fusion band « Bruford Levin Upper Extremities », with Bill Bruford (drums), Tony Levin (bass) and David Torn (guitar). With the "When I Fall In Love" album, he adopts a “mainstream” style using jazz evergreens. From the « To Love Again » album, he invites numerous friends of his such as : Sting, Michael Bublé or Steven Tyler (from the Aerosmith) band and soul singers such as : Gladys Knight and Jill Scott. He accompanies several pop stars (Sting, Frank Sinatra,, Chaka Khan, Rod Stewart, Burt Bacharach ..) and famous musicians (Roy Hargrove, Jeff Lorber, Lee Ritenour, Clark Terry, Brian Culbertson). The "Italia" (2007) album, is a tribute to the Italian "bel canto", very close to classical music, and is nominated to reveive a Grammy Award, in category of « Best instrumental pop album ». Later, he presents a radio broadcast in the U.S « Chill with Chris Botti », in which he proposes a fusion between smooth and cool jazz styles. Source : Wikipedia
