Jazz Prodigy

Josiah Alexander Sila (born June 25, 2003), better known as Joey Alexander, is an Indonesian jazz pianist and child prodigy. He released his first album, My Favorite Things, in 2015 at age 11. He taught himself to play jazz at age six and has performed for Herbie Hancock, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama. In 2014, Wynton Marsalis invited him to play at Jazz at Lincoln Center, which made him an "overnight sensation", according to The New York Times. He won the Grand Prix at the 2013 Master-Jam Fest and performed at the Montreal and Newport Jazz Festivals in 2015. Joey Alexander became first the Indonesian act to enter the Billboard 200 chart when My Favorite Things debuted at number 174

Album: "Countdown"

Countdown
The choice of the famous piece also represents the courage that Alexander presents in his selection of cover material juxtaposed with his own evocative originals like "Soul Dreamer". John Coltrane's "Countdown" is a bit less well known to the general public (his "My Favorite Things" was used as the foreground for this artist), while Criss Cross is one of the pianists / composers Thelonious Monk Among the most famous. Alexander surprises us with the maturity and quality of a young 13-year-old pianist. Magnificent ! He is accompanied by: Joey Alexander: piano; Larry Grenadier: bass; Dan Chmielinski: bass; Ulysses Owens, Jr .: drums; Chris Potter: saxophone soprano.
