We will have four quarter notes in order to fill a simple four beat measure. It is located on the first, second, third and fourth beats. the equivalent of the quarter note in a compound measure, is the dotted quarter note. With a value of a half beat, we will need two eighth notes to compete with a quarter note. The eighth note is half the value of a quarter note.
